Episcopal Church Women | Knights of St. Philip's
Altar Guild
Throughout the church year, the Altar Guild is responsible for the care and preparation of the altars, linens, priests’ and servers’ vestments, brass, silver, candles and flowers. Each month the Guild pprepares for the weekly and special feast day services, as well as, any weddings or funerals that occur during that month. Each team tries to work around its members work schedules or other commitments.
We meet collectively throughout the year to conduct any business. Additionally, we have Brass Days throughout the year when we meet to polish the brass and silver. These days are held on a Saturday morning at church and last about an hour and a half.
Being on the Altar Guild gives you the opportunity to be an integral part of the worship at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. It also offers another opportunity to fellowship, and develop relationships with, members outside of regular service. Please consider becoming a member, we would love to have you join us! Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
The St. Philip’s Episcopal Church chapter of Episcopal Church Women is part of the National Episcopal Church Women. The common denominator of our members is love of God and the wish to do His work. The ECW mission is to “empower women to do Christ's ministry in the world.” The vision of the ECW is “for all women of the Episcopal Church to become a vibrant blend of all ages, coming together as a peacemaking, healing part of the Church. We aspire to be a Godspark-shining and sharing the love of Christ.”
A MESSAGE FROM ECW PRESIDENT MAUDE SAUNDERS…………
I am honored by my selection as president of the Episcopal Church Women of St. Philip’s Church and excited about the opportunities that lie ahead to serve my church family and, in particular, my Sisters in Christ in this new capacity. The well wishes and pledges of support from congregants have been encouraging. Jean Walker, vice president, and I look forward to working with the dedicated, hard working and principled women that comprise the St. Philip’s ECW sisterhood.
All St. Philip’s women are members of the ECW. If you have not been active, please consider joining us. We need your ideas, your spirit and your energy. There is much of the Lord’s work to be done here at St. Philip’s and in the larger world as well. We cannot succeed without you.
Meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month immediately following the 10:30 A. M. service. Again, please join us.

Knights of St. Philips
The Knights of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church was organized on the Eve of St. mark’s Day, April 24, 1961. The main objective of the order of men is to demonstrate by concerted effort in prayer, giving and work the love we have for our parish and its effectiveness upon the community. Further, the members of this Holy Order and members of this parish, St. Philip’s, deem it necessary that work for God must be one of unflattering labor and free of self-recognition. Ever mindful of our personal obligations to Christ Church, we here by our presence establish that it is an honor to work, pray and give for the spread of God’s Kingdom here on earth. In the name of this order, we shall work as one for the furtherance of this part of Our Lord’s Vineyard, solely to His Honor and His Glory. Our motto, “To Work—To Pray –To Give”
Any active male adult communicant of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in good standing who are willing to take an active part in the prayer life of the group may be considered for membership. We encourage all eligible males through special membership activities and personal contacts to become members of our organization. Currently, the Knights have 34 members. The meetings are held monthly with the exception of the summer months, July and August.
The Knights have financially supported the following projects in the Church:
- Hosted Men’s Day, Lenten Dinner, CARITAS, & Fellowship Hour
- Donated funds for Church Picnic, Youth Ministry, installation of lights in the atrium, installation of card and pencil holders, Sanctuary Flowers, stripping and waxing of floors in the Parish Hall, Valentine Ball, purchasing of dishwasher, replacement of tables in the Parish Hall, ECW, etc.
