Connect w/God

For God, nothing is impossible.

Getting connected to God requires more than believing in His existence. God wants you to know Him, not just know about Him. In fact, knowing God is the purpose of life! You were given life because God wanted to give you the chance and the choice (free will) to choose to know Him. Jesus said, "I came so that everyone would have life, and have it in its fullest." (John 10:10). Since God is the Creator of your life and the Creator of this world, connecting with Him is essential.

On the most basic level, you can get connected to God in 2 steps:

  1. You can get connected to God by believing in His Son Jesus Christ. The Bible says that, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) The Bible also says, "To all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. All they had to do was to trust [believer in] Him to save them." (John 1:12)
  2. Get connected to others who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. If you're connected to God but not to others then you still can't reach your full potential because God created us to be together, with each other. In the Bible, after God created the first human, Adam, He said, "It's not good for man to be alone." (Genesis 2:18).

Once you have taken these steps, you are on your way to developing a relationship with God and getting truly connected to Him and His people. The next steps, after your Confession of Faith are:

  1. Baptism: If you have not already been baptized, this is an essential next step after the Confession of Faith. In baptism we are made sharers in the new life of the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of sins. Baptism is the foundation for all future church participation and ministry.
  2. Connect with a ministry or group
  3. Take time to learn more about your decision to connect with God.

Your Journey to Connecting with God: The Promise & Problem

"For God created the heavens and the earth and put everything in place... He made the world to live in and not be an empty chaos." (Isaiah 45:18)

The Promise

God loves you and created you to know Him personally. The Bible tells us, "For God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son so that anyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16). He has a purpose for each life and when connected to Him we can fulfill that purpose completely. Jesus Christ says, "My purpose is to give life in all its fullness." (John 10:10).

The Problem

The problem with connecting with God is our sinful nature that is constantly warring with our Christ-like nature. Our sins separate us from God and prevent us from developing the personal relationships that God desires. The Bible tells us, "For all have sinned; all fall short of God's glorious standard." (Romans 3:23)

We were created to have a personal relationship with God, but often, we make choices that are a rebellion against God’s will. Because God loves us and recognizes that we will fall short of His will, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to serve as a “liaison” between us and Him. Through our belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, we can know God personally. Jesus Christ died for our sins and therefore gives us the ability to repent of our sins and ask for forgiveness from God. The Bible affirms our path to God through Jesus Christ:

  • He died in our place: "But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." (Romans 5:8)
  • He rose from the dead: "Christ died for our sins ... He was buried, and He was raised from the dead on the third day ... He was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles. After that He was seen by more than five hundred ..." (1 Corinthians 15:3-6)
  • He is the only way to God: "Jesus said to them, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'" (John 14:6)
