Choirs
Music is an integral part of the most of the worship services at St. Philip’s. The choir, accompanied by congregation sings during most of the service-- opening prayers, hymns and canticles between Scripture readings, the Lord’s Prayer, music when we walk up to the altar, music during communion, and music with the dance. We use two hymnals: The 1982 Hymnal and the Lift Every Voice (LEV) Hymnal.
Our all-volunteer choir provides strong vocal leadership and leads harmony parts. Choir members wear traditional vestments provided by the church. We sing pieces from a range of eras and styles in every service including Anglican chant, and African-American Spirituals, and Contemporary Gospel. Our choirs are supported by various in-house and guest musicians who play a variety of instruments including the organ, piano, bass guitar, drums, trumpet, and saxophone. Throughout the year, we also have Special Choirs: Handbell & Youth.

Altar Guild
Throughout the church year, the Altar Guild is responsible for the care and preparation of the altars, linens, priests’ and servers’ vestments, brass, silver, candles and flowers. Each month the Guild prepares for the weekly and special feast day services, as well as, any weddings or funerals that occur during that month. Each team tries to work around its members work schedules or other commitments.
We meet collectively throughout the year to conduct any business. Additionally, we have Brass Days a year when we meet to polish the brass and silver. These days are held on a Saturday morning at church and last about an hour and a half. Being on the Altar Guild gives you the opportunity to be an integral part of the worship at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. It also offers another opportunity to fellowship, and develop relationships with, members outside of regular service. Please consider becoming a member, we would love to have you join us! Vestry
The vestry is the legal representative of the parish with regard to all matters pertaining to its corporate property. The number of vestry members at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church is 4 and the term of service is 2-years. Vestry members are elected at the annual parish meeting. The presiding officer of the vestry is the rector. There are usually two wardens. The senior warden leads the parish between rectors and is a support person for the rector. The junior warden often has responsibility for church property and buildings. A treasurer and a secretary or clerk may be chosen. These officers may or may not be vestry members. The basic responsibilities of the vestry are to help define and articulate the mission of the congregation; to support the church's mission by word and deed, to select the rector, to ensure effective organization and planning, and to manage resources and finances. To serve with this ministry, please click here.
